Kishikaisei13: i be who i be nigga

My opinion that Adelphia is a shitty company was reaffirmed this week, when my cable TV and internet was installed. When I called to set up the installation, I was asked twice if I was interested in extra channels like HBO, and once if I wanted a cable box. I replied no to all three questions. I was instructed to have a check ready in the amount of the first month's bill to give to the cable guy when he arrived.

The day of installation arrived. Now, my apartment looks like this:

----------------------------------------
l``` l ```l ````````l``````` l
l---X```` l```````` l``````` l
l``````` l```````` l``````` l
----------------------------------------

The "X" is where the cable connection originates, in one of the bedroom closets. The cable guy claimed that if he ran cable from there to the farthest room, the picture would be bad so he shouldn't do it. My roommate, who was the one there to let him in, called me to find out what to do. I, of course, knew the guy was full of shit and told him to do it anyway. Additionally, he claimed that he could not put the cable modem anywhere but the closet. This, too, was a blatant lie, but I did not find out about it until I got back to the apartment. Despite my repeated indication that I did not want a cable box, he installed one anyway. He also did not take the check that I was instructed to write.

Upon my arrival, I moved the modem myself into the center room. And what do you know? It worked just fine. And the picture on the TV in the far bedroom was fine too. What did not work, however, was the cable box. Not that I am at all surprised.

We have two explanations for his behavior, neither of which reflects well on his employing company.

1. He knows nothing about the equipment he is paid to install, which would explain his confusion at being asked to run cable across *gasp* three whole rooms! This also requires that he is too stupid to figure out that if cable customers get three TVs hooked up for free with cable installation, and no one in the world has three TVs in the same room, coax cable must do just fine running through several rooms.

2. He didn't want to have to do the work required to run cable accross the apartment, so he tried to get out of it by lying about the limitations of the equipment.

It has to be some combination of both: not only did he not know how to hook up the cable box properly, but he did not bother to make sure it was working.

This all reflects extremely poorly on Adelphia. Either they hire dishonest people or stupid people, and either don't train their employees or don't make sure that their employees know what is going on before sending them into the field.
